Same Day, Contact Lenses and Glasses
Do you know what type of lens you wear? And what type of prescription you have? If you wear soft lenses chances are you can easily switch contact lenses to glasses in the same day. The main selling point of soft lenses is comfort, therefore you can put them on whenever and for however long you like. When you take them off, just put on your glasses and you are good to go.
Rigid Gas Permeable lenses provide more crisp vision, similar to the vision found with glasses. However, in some cases they can make wearing eyeglasses immediately after removing lenses a little difficult. Some gas permeable lenses have a tendency to re-shape the outer surface of the cornea. While it is in no way dangerous, it can blur your vision for a short period after the lenses are taken off.
The characteristic that RGP lenses will blur eyeglass vision is called spectacle blur. It should not last very long in most cases; anything over a half hour should be brought to the attention of your contact lens specialist.
The latest designs in RGP technology and oxygen permeable materials limit spectacle blur to a minimum. Depending on the type of lens being fit, such as a multifocal or aspheric, spectacle blur may be more noticeable. Corneal tenacity also has an effect; some corneas will react different to a lens on the eye for a long period of time.
For most contact lens wearers, switching between lenses and contacts should not be an issue. If you notice a problem, contact your eye care professional and ask if what you are experiencing is to be expected for your individual case. If it’s not, let them fix you up so you can see clearly all day long.
