New Lens Design For Pellucid Marginal Degeneration
Centration and lower edge lift are the two main challenges when fitting patients with pellucid marginal degeneration. Such patients are constantly concerned about lenses falling out and debris getting under the lens.
Thanks to a new breakthrough in gas permeable lens manufacturing, Blanchard has introduced the Bi-Sym enhancement. This enhancement allows the lower mid-periphery to be steepened independently of the upper mid-periphery. An enhancement independent of the rest of the lens means we can achieve an ideal lens to cornea relationship over the superior cornea while addressing the inferior cornea separately.
Using this modality provides improved comfort, stability and tear exchange. The Bi-Sym enhancement has proven benefits to our patients suffering from pellucid marginal degeneration.
